Whether this is your first birth, or you are simply hoping for a better experience this time around, the physicians and staff of Emory Decatur Hospital are With You all the way, ready to serve as a supportivepartner during your prenatal, labor, delivery and the post-partum period. We are passionate about our philosophy of “one birth at a time” – making your birth experience uniquely yours. Many of our physicians provide midwifery services as part of their practice and believe they play a vital role in the birthing experience.
Women have been serving others in childbirth for many centuries and have proven that support from another woman has a positive impact on the labor process. Today, midwives are qualified health care providers who receive comprehensive training and must pass an examination to become certified. Certification is offered by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).
These Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) are increasingly a common desire for expectant mothers and many of Emory’s associated OBGYN practices have CNMs on staff. These midwives assist the patient during labor and delivery, often acting hands-on, during the birth experience.
